Two University Students Drown at Bonny Doon Beach in Santa Cruz
Two young women from Fremont lost their lives last Wednesday when powerful waves swept them into the Pacific Ocean at Bonny Doon Beach in Santa Cruz County. The victims, 21-year-old Harshita Nair and 20-year-old Mahial Sran, were napping near a known hazardous spot when rising tides became dangerous. Both had graduated in 2023 from Washington High School in Fremont. Nair was studying legal studies at UC Berkeley, and Sran was pursuing public health at San Jose State University, with both set to graduate in 2027. Their families were notified by the Santa Cruz County sheriff-coroner’s office. Authorities warn beachgoers to stay clear of strong currents and avoid resting near the water’s edge in this area.
