The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has announced that Thursday, July 16, 2026 will mark the first day of Safar 1448AH. This follows the National Moonsighting Committee’s report that no new crescent was sighted on Tuesday, July 14 (29th of Muharram 1448AH), making Wednesday, July 15 the 30th day of Muharram. Based on these findings, the Sultan approved the completion of the current month and declared Thursday as the start of Safar. The announcement was issued by the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.
