Why Nigeria Must Move Beyond ‘Knowledge Is Power’ to Fix Its Electricity Crisis
Many people still say “knowledge is power.” But in today’s world, execution matters more than ideas alone. If Peter Obi truly understands electricity generation, he should share those insights with Anambra State now that power generation is decentralized. Otherwise, his talk of knowledge rings hollow. Countries like Vietnam and India ended chronic blackouts with long-term planning, grid expansion, private investment and strict metering. Bangladesh and Rwanda paired mini-grids with solar home systems to light up remote villages. Nigeria can achieve reliable power within 10–15 years by fixing transmission lines, ending estimated billing with smart meters, tackling electricity theft, expanding gas-to-power and promoting solar mini-grids. Treating electricity as a national development mission could transform our grid.
