NCC Appeals to Tinubu for Incentives to Boost Local Smartphone Manufacturing
The chairman of the NCC board pledged to secure presidential incentives for investors ready to build smartphone factories in Nigeria. He made the announcement after participating in the Digital Africa Summit Roundtable in Shanghai. Local production, he argued, would lower device costs, create thousands of jobs and expand digital inclusion among students, small businesses and young Nigerians. It would also strengthen value chains, reduce dependence on imports and cushion consumers against currency volatility. Manufacturers that begin factory construction before November can expect government support and policy backing. The NCC will help connect serious investors with the right regulatory framework. Improved device regulations and financing models are also planned to curb counterfeits, enhance quality and make smartphones more affordable.
