Soludo Urges Academic Debate on Biafra Secession at UNN Lecture
Governor Chukwuma Soludo says Nigerian universities have lowered the bar in rigorous critical thinking and intellectual discourse. Speaking at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he challenged academics to turn intellectualism into activism by tackling issues like the South East’s Biafra agitation, state creation, and marginalization. He warned that sit-at-home orders since 2021 have cost the region countless lives, shuttered schools, devastated businesses, and drained hundreds of billions of naira. Soludo called on professors to examine Biafra secession as a political-economic question in peer-reviewed forums, not on social media. He urged that sound arguments withstand scholarly scrutiny or be refuted by better reasoning.
