Spiritual Pressure Guided Diri’s Choice of Bayelsa’s New Deputy Governor

Spiritual Pressure Guided Diri’s Choice of Bayelsa’s New Deputy Governor

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has revealed he faced spiritual pressure when selecting a replacement for his late deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. Diri said the process, which led to Dr. Peter Akpe’s appointment on February 25, was guided by prayers and divine direction. The governor emphasized competence over personal ties, noting he only recently discovered Akpe was his maternal relative. Speaking at a special thanksgiving service at the RCCG regional headquarters in Yenagoa, Diri urged residents and faith leaders to keep praying for peace and government. Dr. Akpe, in his remarks, recounted his journey from poverty and thanked the church for the unexpected honour.

Claiming divine direction for appointments seems convenient, especially if the choice sparks debate or doubts about merit.
