NiDCOM Confirms Release of Nigerian Girls Detained at Mauritius Airport

The Nigerian girls detained at Mauritius airport have been released, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM). NiDCOM said they were freed on Monday and are travelling back to Nairobi, Kenya. Their detention drew public attention after a video of them in custody circulated online. The commission said it is working with the relevant Nigerian diplomatic mission to establish why they were detained and prevent a repeat. Neither NiDCOM nor Mauritian authorities has disclosed the identities of the girls or the circumstances surrounding their detention.
