Husband Pleads with Kidnappers: Free My Wife and Baby, Take Me Instead

In Ahoro-Esinele community, bandits abducted Mary Akanbi, a teacher, her 18-month-old baby, and other pupils and staff last week. Her husband, Mr Akanbi, appeared in a viral video appealing to the kidnappers to free his family and kidnap him instead. He lamented that the attack has destroyed his life and left victims’ families unprotected, as no security operatives have arrived. Residents say only families of the abducted remain in the deserted area. Mary had earlier appealed to President Tinubu, Governor Makinde, her church and the local community to intervene and secure their release. The abduction follows last Friday’s attack on two schools in Oriire LGA, where one teacher was killed and others were kidnapped. Governor Makinde has pledged to meet any demands for their safe return, and President Tinubu condemned the violence and vowed to work with state authorities to rescue the captives.
