Ogun Approves Four Bills Targeting Cultism, Ritual Killings and Missing Persons
The Ogun State Executive Council has approved four proposed laws aimed at tackling violent crime, cultism, extortion, ritual killings and missing-person cases. The bills will be sent to the Ogun State House of Assembly for consideration. The proposed Group Liability for Offences of Violence, Extortion and Secret Societies Bill would make members of unlawful groups jointly liable for offences committed in pursuit of the group’s objectives. It is intended to target violent gangs, cult groups and other criminal organisations. Other proposals include a Victims’ Rights Bill to provide support, protection, compensation and restitution for crime victims. The Human Sacrifice Prevention and Prohibition Bill would address ritual killings as specific offences, while the Missing Persons Bill seeks to give investigators clearer powers and procedures for tracing missing people and accessing relevant records. The state government says the measures are intended to improve public safety, protect residents and businesses, and strengthen Ogun’s investment climate.
