Ebonyi Police Vow Enhanced Safety for EBSU Students, Address Ishieke Checkpoint Issues

The Ebonyi State Police Command has reassured Ebonyi State University students of improved security measures. Commissioner of Police Hope Urunwa Okafor met with the Students’ Union Government at the command headquarters in Abakaliki to address their concerns. Students raised issues of harassment, extortion, and long delays at the Ishieke checkpoint near campus. They also reported incidents of phone snatching and poor lighting around Presco Junction. The police commissioner said the Ishieke checkpoint will remain for its strategic importance. She urged students to report any misconduct to the divisional officer and promised to intervene if issues persist. She also directed the deployment of additional officers to Presco Junction and encouraged the university to work with government agencies to improve street lighting around the campus.
