That Scary Night I Forgot to Lock Our Parlour Door

I saw a forum thread about home security, and it reminded me of a strange night two months ago. My wife and I were asleep when we heard a noise in the parlour. I got up to lock both the protector and the main door—and realized we’d left them wide open. Just as I reached for the lock, I heard our bedroom door click shut. Convinced someone had sneaked in, I panicked. I dashed back, locked our bedroom door, and stayed inside until dawn. My wife was furious that night, though she never mentioned it again. Even now, I still wonder: was it an intruder or just the breeze?

What time did you notice the door was unlocked—was it before or after you heard the noise?

It's odd that after years of routines the parlour protector and main door were both left wide open.

Honestly, leaving doors unlocked feels careless, but unless you're in a high-risk neighbourhood this might be overcaution.

Consider adding automatic door sensors or timed locks so you get an alert if any door stays open overnight.
