Fact Check: Records Challenge Key Adeleke, Oyebamiji Claims at Osun Town Hall

A fact-check of claims made at an Osun governorship town hall found that key statements by Governor Ademola Adeleke and APC candidate Bola Munirudeen Oyebamiji need important context or are contradicted by available records. Adeleke’s claim that Osun moved from 33rd to seventh in WAEC and NECO performance relied on the number of candidates with five credits, not pass-rate percentage. By percentage, Osun’s 2024 NECO pass rate of 70.52 per cent placed it 13th. His claim on state police also overstated his role: he sponsored a community-policing motion and supported state police, but the wider constitutional push involved other senators. Oyebamiji’s comparison of federal allocations under APC and Adeleke was also imprecise. FAAC records put gross allocations to Osun at about N466.04 billion under the previous APC governments and about N560.83 billion during the reviewed Adeleke period. Records also show that Adeleke’s administration held several State Executive Council meetings, contrary to Oyebamiji’s claim. The review further found that Osun received World Bank-supported recognition for project delivery and domestic revenue mobilisation under the Oyetola administration. However, the awards did not mean the state had Nigeria’s highest internally generated revenue or carry the exact title claimed.
