SERAP Urges INEC to Probe Alleged N800bn FAAC Diversion by APC Governors
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It called for an urgent investigation into claims that APC governors diverted about N800bn from FAAC funds to fuel campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections. SERAP wants INEC to demand full public disclosure of all contributions, including donor identities and the lawful origin of funds. The group also urged collaboration with anti-corruption agencies to enforce sanctions—ranging from fines to prosecution—where campaign finance rules are broken. Citing Section 91 of the Electoral Act 2022 and relevant constitutional provisions, SERAP warned that unchecked diversion of public funds undermines electoral fairness and public trust. It has given INEC seven days to act or face possible legal action to compel compliance.
