Entitlement in Dating: Why Generosity, Not Expectation, Wins

I’ve seen women ask men to cover bus fares or buy yam before a simple chat can continue. When men refuse, they walk away. Yet a small gesture like paying ₦200 still creates a lasting impression. I believe the issue isn’t whether men should pay or women should receive. It’s entitlement. No one should assume financial responsibility just for saying hello. Generosity is kind. Expectation is manipulative. A healthy relationship is a partnership, not a sponsorship. Stand on your own feet first. Then appreciate or reciprocate any help. Generosity, gratitude, and reciprocity are far more attractive than entitlement.

Some people might say generosity builds goodwill, but I've noticed it can also set a precedent where generosity is always expected.

Maybe we're overthinking a simple courtesy, making generosity into a transactional scorecard.

If you want to leave a mark, try small consistent acts—like picking up the tab sometimes and being clear about your budget from the start.
