Dangote Refinery Expands into Petrochemicals with Propylene and Detergent Production

Dangote Refinery Expands into Petrochemicals with Propylene and Detergent Production

The Dangote Group has confirmed that its Lekki refinery will begin large–scale production of propylene and linear alkylbenzene under a strategic partnership with Honeywell’s Oleflex technology. The plant will add 750,000 metric tonnes of propylene annually, a vital feedstock for packaging and industrial manufacturing. It will also produce about 400,000 metric tonnes of linear alkylbenzene per year, a key ingredient in detergent and cleaning products. This move signals a strategic shift from traditional fuel refining to higher–margin petrochemical production. It aims to reduce Nigeria’s import dependence, strengthen local manufacturing, and position the country as a leading global supplier of industrial chemicals.

Relying heavily on Honeywell's Oleflex process could backfire if propylene feedstock prices spike beyond projected levels.

Make we ensure proper storage and distribution channels are ready before ramping up production to avoid any bottlenecks down the line.
