Nigerian Army to Recruit 28,000 Soldiers, Opens Third Training Depot
The Nigerian Army has launched a recruitment drive to train 28,000 additional soldiers in its fight against insecurity. Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu announced at an Abuja briefing that a new depot at Amasiri Edda now joins two existing facilities to bolster manpower. Shaibu added that the service has formed new brigades and units, modernised its platforms, and reviewed its force structure to cover deployment gaps and counter emerging threats. He highlighted a “Soldier-First” culture focused on welfare, gallantry recognition, and infrastructure upgrades. He also outlined plans for the 2026 Army Day celebration, featuring prayers, church services, public speaking in schools, charity and medical outreaches, and a grand parade alongside the African Land Forces Forum. Golden opportunity for those ‘30k monthly praise singers’ to turn words into action, serve the nation and earn a living rather than just cheering from the sidelines.
