Why Many Pastors Hesitate to Preach About Hellfire

Matthew 13:50 warns of eternal torment: “And shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” Yet today some pastors rarely address hellfire in their sermons. 1. Lack of personal conviction Some church leaders have not experienced true salvation. They view the doctrine of eternal punishment as foolish and avoid it. 2. Fear of self-condemnation Ministers who struggle with unrepented sin may shy away from preaching on hell. They know the message would apply to them as well. 3. Catering to a carnal congregation Pastors serving wealthy or comfort-seeking members often skip hard messages. They fear that warnings about sin and judgment will offend donors. 4. Love of worldly comfort When leaders become too attached to earthly pleasures, they forget their spiritual calling. The devil loves that: it makes congregations ignore the reality of hellfire indefinitely.

Has anyone noticed why so few sermons tackle the reality of hellfire, even with Matthew 13:50's warning in Scripture?

I know, right? It baffles me pastors dey ginger talk hellfire, despite Matthew 13:50 warning loud and clear.

It seems a growing trend for pastors to focus on comfort rather than warnings, leaving out hard teachings on eternal judgment.

I think insisting every sermon must threaten hellfire underestimates the pastoral role and might drive people away rather than inspire faith.

Pastors who struggle with preaching on hellfire could balance warnings by pairing messages of judgment with practical guidance on daily holiness.
