Osinbajo Challenges the Prosperity Gospel at Benin Church Panel
On Sunday, 5 March 2026 at Rock of Ages Christian Assembly in Benin, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo spoke on “Christian Leadership – The Need for Capacity Building.” He urged Christians to revive the work ethic, charity and integrity that shaped early Christian societies and built modern welfare states. During a panel with pastors Korede Komaiya and Olumide Emmanuel, Osinbajo stressed that caring for the poor is central to Jesus’ gospel. Komaiya defended the prosperity gospel as “correct, original and godly,” while Osinbajo called it a perversion of biblical teaching. Their disagreement highlighted growing concern over prosperity preaching in Nigeria. Observers noted Osinbajo’s political vision rooted in Awolowo’s principles and his commitment to social welfare. Many now hope churches will model genuine concern for the poor and influence government policy in service of Nigeria’s most vulnerable.
