Mike Ozekhome’s SAN Status Suspended by LPPC Amid Disciplinary Review

Mike Ozekhome’s SAN Status Suspended by LPPC Amid Disciplinary Review

Professor Mike Ozekhome has been barred from using the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title after the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) announced his suspension at its 173rd general meeting. The committee cited Paragraph 26(6) of its SAN conferment guidelines and said the freeze will last until the Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee concludes its proceedings. LPPC Secretary and Supreme Court Chief Registrar Kabiru Akanbi stated the action is meant to protect the integrity, dignity, and reputation of the SAN rank. Until the case is resolved, Ozekhome is not permitted to identify as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The statement cites paragraph 26(6) of the guidelines, but it lacks detail on the exact breach behind the suspension.

I no see how suspending his SAN title will improve trust if the process remains so opaque.

LPPC should publish a summary of findings so lawyers understand expectations and prevent similar disciplinary issues going forward.
