Anambra Govt Pledges Justice for 16-Year-Old Girl Now Pregnant After Alleged Rape by Eight Men
The Anambra Government has promised swift justice for a 16-year-old girl from Nawfia, Njikoka LGA. She was reportedly raped by eight men, including her guardian. State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Esther Onyekesi, told newsmen in Awka that a medical report confirms the teenager is now two months pregnant. A concerned priest first reported the assault. The girl said her guardian forced himself on her nightly before other men joined in. She was rescued last week by a good Samaritan and brought to the ministry. Two suspects are now in custody at the Nawfia police station. Commissioner Onyekesi condemned adults who betray their duty to protect children. She assured the girl’s safety and urged all men to defend, not exploit, young women.
