Colorism and Campus Power Dynamics in Omega Psi Phi & Alpha Kappa Alpha
This post explores how antebellum color hierarchies influence modern Black fraternities and sororities. It argues that light-skinned women are prized for softness while darker men are staged for hyper-masculinity. On campus, the author claims darker fraternities wield dominance and lighter sororities preserve elite “luxury.” Both reinforce old color-based roles to maintain social currency among members. A combined strategy allegedly targets light-skinned Black men, devaluing their masculinity while the sorority asserts control over “softness.” This cycle of rituals and traditions is described as a reenactment of plantation-era auctions. The author calls for exposing these secret practices. They warn that hidden cabals use shameful rituals to retain power and undermine community independence.
