Rivers United Targets Top African Talent Ahead of CAF Champions League

Rivers United Targets Top African Talent Ahead of CAF Champions League

Rivers United will recruit at least 10 top-quality foreign players from across Africa in a bid to strengthen its squad for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, chairman Barrister Chris Green has revealed. After finishing second in the Nigeria Premier Football League, the club sees neighbouring countries as a crucial talent pool to offset the loss of domestic stars to overseas leagues. Green says this plan is vital for Nigerian clubs to regain continental prominence. Pending approval from the Rivers State Government, Rivers United will reorganise its roster ahead of next season. Underperforming players will make way for new signings, while promising youngsters from the feeder team will compete for first-team spots.
