Rivers State University has unveiled its Third Five-Year Strategic Development Plan for 2026–2030. The roadmap aims to position the university among Nigeria’s top ten institutions and strengthen its global relevance. At the Convocation Arena on March 25, 2026, Pro-Chancellor Okey Wali called for collective commitment, discipline and accountability. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi highlighted clear goals, objectives and intervention strategies developed through broad consultation. The plan sets out four strategic goals and eight objectives focused on governance improvement, funding expansion, infrastructure modernization and human capital development. Key priorities include modernizing facilities, enhancing student accommodation and deploying advanced ICT systems. Estimated at ₦110 billion, funding will come from internal resources, government support, donor contributions, alumni engagement and public-private partnerships. A new Strategic Planning Office will oversee implementation, monitoring and a mid-term review.

It's ambitious, but similar plans have been launched before without lasting impact. Funding and execution will be critical.
