FG Inaugurates NBTE Board, Moves to Certify Skilled Artisans and Expand TVET
The Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Board of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), with a directive to strengthen technical and vocational education across Nigeria. Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the board should fast-track the Recognition of Prior Learning framework. The scheme is expected to formally assess and certify skilled artisans, improving their access to jobs, finance, government contracts and opportunities across the ECOWAS region. The minister also called for modern, industry-focused curricula that include digital skills, artificial intelligence, automation, green technology and advanced manufacturing. NBTE Chairman Babatunde Salako said the board would work to change the perception of technical education as a second-choice pathway and encourage more young Nigerians to pursue practical skills.
