Examining Alleged Ethnic Bias in Abike Dabiri-Erewa's Recent Social Media Posts

Examining Alleged Ethnic Bias in Abike Dabiri-Erewa's Recent Social Media Posts

I have noted recent posts by Abike Dabiri-Erewa on her official social media account. She used terms like "Obingo" and "Obidiot" to describe supporters of Peter Obi. Such language seems inappropriate for a public servant funded by Nigerian taxpayers. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has led the Nigerian Diaspora Commission since 2018 and previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs after a long legislative career. My connection with her dates back 13 years, when she was matron of my student union at LASU. I recall disappointing interactions that changed my perception of her professionalism. Now her harsh remarks on social media raise concerns about ethnic bias and civic responsibility. I urge all public officials, especially Abike Dabiri-Erewa, to maintain unity and civility in public communications moving toward the 2027 elections.

Have others noticed these insults like "Obingo" and "Obidiot" are crossing a line for a public servant funded by all taxpayers?

Absolutely. Public servants owe us respectful dialogue, insults like those only fuel division and undermine trust.

Those nicknames might sting, but it's all part of political banter. Let's focus on the bigger picture instead.

It's curious that a high-profile representative would use such dismissive labels against fellow Nigerians without any apparent accountability.

While political debates can get heated, calling supporters "Obidiots" still feels unprofessional, even if intended as playful banter.

Perhaps we should urge a formal apology and ask her office to adopt clearer social media guidelines that respect all ethnic groups.
