Two-Thirds of Nigeria’s Revenue Now Goes to Debt Servicing
The latest treasury figures show that the Federal Government allocated 67% of its revenue to debt servicing in the last fiscal period. Even with rising revenue collections, most of the funds are committed to past obligations, leaving only 33 kobo of every Naira for public services, infrastructure and social programmes. Economic analysts warn that this persistent pattern limits Nigeria’s fiscal flexibility and underscores the urgent need for strategies to ease the debt burden and free up resources for development.
