Amaechi Leads National 2027 Presidential Poll by Wide Margin

Amaechi Leads National 2027 Presidential Poll by Wide Margin — 1 of 3
1 / 3

In the first round of a national public opinion poll conducted by a major Nigerian TV network, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi secured a commanding lead with 93,616 votes. He outpaced other prominent contenders including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Goodluck Jonathan and Atiku Abubakar. The survey, which closed on April 1, 2026, also highlighted a rapid rise in support for the only female aspirant, Patience Ndidi Key, particularly among women and youth groups. Analysts attribute Amaechi’s surge to intensive consultations and alliances with regional and stakeholder groups. Meanwhile, support for Bola Tinubu has waned amid economic and security concerns, and Peter Obi’s numbers remain largely flat amid uncertainties over his alliances. The poll committee will open the next voting phase from April 4 to May 31, 2026, aiming to broaden participation across Nigeria and the diaspora.

It's surprising that Amaechi outpaced long-established figures like Kwankwaso and Jonathan by such a margin so early in the race.

Regardless of current standings, voters should verify candidate track records and policy positions before casting their ballots in the upcoming election.
