Afobaje Council Rejects Unauthorized Letter to Governor on Awujale Succession
The Secretary of the Awujale Afobaje Council, Chief Ayotunde Ola Odulaja, has criticised a letter allegedly sent by the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode to Governor Dapo Abiodun about selecting a new Awujale. He described the correspondence as unauthorised and misleading. Odulaja explained that the selection process remains suspended by the Ogun State Government since January 20, 2026, when the council received an official directive. No meetings have been held since that order. He insisted that only the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebu-Ode, Chief Sonny Kuku, serves as chairman of the kingmakers’ council, while the Olisa heads a separate Ilamuren Council. Any official communication should come through the recognised chairman. The Awujale stool remains vacant until the government lifts its suspension and the council can resume proper procedures.
