Edo Security Squads Nab 12 Suspected Cultists, Seal Two Initiation Apartments in Benin City
Security agents from the Special Security Squad, Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers, have arrested 12 suspected cult members and sealed two apartments used for alleged initiations in Benin City. The raids were conducted at multiple hotspots including Ekosodin, Isihor, Old Road off S&T Barracks, Airport Road, 19th Street Ugbowo, Ogba-Evbuodia and Evbuomore Quarters. The operation followed the killing of a young man outside the University of Benin gate on May 10. Noah Idemudia, spokesperson for the squad, said symbols and incriminating items linked the suspects to different cult groups. One sealed apartment at Ogba-Evbuodia was the scene of an attack on operatives, while another at Evbuomore contained shrines and fetish items. All suspects have been handed over to the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Edo State Police Command as investigations continue.
