How Do I Tell My Aunt Her Cooking Is Terrible Without Hurting Her Feelings?

Every weekend my aunt comes over and starts cooking without asking. She brags about her dishes while we eat. The rice is always undercooked and the stew lacks seasoning. My dad teases her behind her back, but I feel guilty staying silent. I worry that telling her the truth will offend her. She will be upset and call me disrespectful. Our family gatherings will become awkward. So I smile and drink water to wash the food down. I need advice. Should I tell my aunt her cooking is bad? If so, how can I do it kindly? Has anyone faced a similar situation?

Have you considered asking your aunt if she'd like to learn a new recipe together while praising her effort first?

What positive feedback do you plan to share before asking her to try a new recipe together?

It feels odd to me that everyone just laughs about her cooking instead of offering her tips, like they're afraid of hurting her feelings.

Maybe telling her directly isn't as scary as it sounds, and you might be overthinking simple feedback.

Try inviting her to co-cook on Saturdays, then casually discuss seasoning and timing as you both work side by side.
