Tinubu’s Plateau Visit Falls Short at the Airport

Tinubu’s Plateau Visit Falls Short at the Airport

On Thursday, President Tinubu landed at Yakubu Gowon Airport in Plateau State to meet families affected by the Angwan Rukuba Palm Sunday attack. He walked into the airport hall, gave a brief speech of less than ten minutes and offered no clear assurance to arrest those responsible. After shaking hands with a few relatives, he returned to his jet and flew back to Lagos to celebrate Easter. I can’t believe the condolence gathering was held at the airport instead of the State House or Jos North, where the tragedy occurred. It felt like a missed opportunity to show genuine empathy.

I get why many doubt him, but even a few sincere words at the airport can mean he cares.

It feels odd that he spent less than ten minutes speaking yet didn't even outline any steps to arrest the attackers.

I'm not sure an airport stop without firm commitments will change much for families still waiting for justice.

A follow-up visit with clear arrest timelines and public updates could reassure victims' families that authorities take their plight seriously.
