US Court Jails Nigerian Man for Five Years Over Sextortion Case Linked to Student's Death
A US court has sentenced Nigerian national Afeez Olatunji Adewale, 27, to five years in prison for money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud linked to the online sextortion of a 20-year-old college student in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, whose death followed the abuse. Adewale was extradited from Nigeria to the United States in February 2026 after his 2023 arrest during an FBI-backed operation. He pleaded guilty in April and will also serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term. Two co-defendants, Imoleayo Samuel Aina and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, had previously been extradited and convicted in the same case. US authorities said the prosecution was supported by Nigerian justice and security agencies, including the EFCC.
