NAPTIP Rescues Nigerian Teen Trafficked for Sexual Exploitation
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken custody of a 17-year-old girl from Obingwa Local Government Area in Abia State. She was lured to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on false pretences and subjected to sexual exploitation. The victim escaped and made her way to Liberia, where she sought help at the Nigerian Embassy. On Sunday, April 26, the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy in Monrovia formally handed her over to NAPTIP officials at the airport. The agency is now providing care, protection, and support while investigations continue to dismantle the trafficking network.
