Oluremi Tinubu Donates ₦2bn to Revive Akwete Weaving Heritage in Abia

The First Lady of Nigeria has given ₦2 billion to the Abia State Government to support the development and promotion of Akwete fabric. This centuries-old handwoven textile originates from Ukwa East Local Government Area. During her visit to Aba, she explained that the funds will develop a production centre, create jobs, and boost the local economy. She said the intervention will preserve the craft and ensure the cultural heritage is passed to future generations. She praised the women weavers for their dedication to this sacred tradition. The governor and other state officials expressed gratitude and pledged to modernise the industry with technology and improved infrastructure.
