Police Arrest Eight Suspected Cultists, Recover Guns in Delta Raids
Delta State Police Command says it arrested a suspected cultist and recovered firearms in two intelligence-led operations in Abraka and Issele-Uku. On July 28, police and Civilian Joint Task Force members reportedly raided a gathering at Liberty Hotel on Omono Road, Abraka, following a tip-off. One suspect, Wale Morakinyo, 27, was arrested, while others fled. Police said two locally made pistols and four live cartridges were recovered. In a separate operation near Voke Technical College in Issele-Uku, the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit arrested seven people suspected of belonging to the Maphite Confraternity. Officers reportedly recovered a double-barrel gun, seven cartridges, a cutlass, a cult beret and seven phones. Police say investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest other suspects who escaped.
