Anti-Land-Grabbing Convener Seeks Lagos AG Review of Prince Akinloye Murder Case

The convener of an anti-land-grabbing campaign has asked the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to independently review the murder prosecution involving the late Prince Ademola Akinloye. In a petition dated July 24, 2026, he requested a full assessment of the evidence, including material that may support or weaken the case. He said the review should examine alleged inconsistencies in investigative reports, procedural issues, omitted facts and any improper influence on investigators, witnesses or prosecutors. He urged the Attorney-General to consider temporarily discontinuing the case, where the law permits, if the review identifies major evidential or investigative gaps. He said this would allow for a comprehensive investigation before the prosecution continues. The petitioner said he has no personal relationship with the accused and is motivated by the need for a fair, transparent process. He added that the deceased's family deserves the truth and that anyone found criminally responsible should face the full weight of the law.

What would an independent review by the Lagos Attorney-General focus on in this murder prosecution, and how transparent can that process be?

Would the review process include a clear public explanation of its scope and findings?

The petition shows why people affected by serious cases often want a fresh assessment, especially when the deceased person's family may be seeking clarity.

A request for review is understandable, but it should not automatically be treated as proof that the existing prosecution is flawed.

The petitioner should clearly state the grounds for review and the Attorney-General's office should communicate any decision in a way the public can follow.
