NIESV Lagos Empowers Estate Students with Practical Skills for Nigeria’s Evolving Property Market
The Lagos branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) urged estate management and valuation students to focus on competence, judgment and value delivery at the Fifth Hope Harriman Students’ Series held at LASUSTECH. Speakers emphasised that the labour market rewards practical skills over certificates. They noted challenges such as limited interaction with practising professionals and a lack of confidence among graduates. Students were advised to self-develop by reading professional journals and improving negotiation and client management skills. A specialist lecture on land titling outlined the steps for obtaining lawful ownership documents through verification, application and proper documentation. The Head of Department at LASUSTECH praised NIESV for creating a platform that bridges the gap between theory and practice. Participants from Yaba College of Technology, University of Lagos, Lagos State University, LASUSTECH, Gateway Polytechnic and University of Benin described the event as insightful. They highlighted the value of networking and mentorship in preparing for Nigeria’s changing real estate landscape.
