Onne Port Stakeholders Threaten Shutdown Over Bad Roads and E-Call-Up Charges

Freight forwarders, maritime truck owners and other stakeholders at Onne Port in Rivers State have issued a four-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Ports Authority and relevant agencies over deteriorating access roads, electronic truck call-up charges and the absence of holding bays. The groups said Customs revenue from Onne Port Command and the Oil and Gas Free Zone Customs reportedly reached about ₦487 billion between January and July 2026. They argued that part of the revenue should be used to repair the port’s internal access roads, which they said have become dangerous for truck drivers, workers and host communities. They also demanded the suspension of the electronic call-up system until enough truck holding bays are provided. The stakeholders said they would withdraw services and halt business activities at the port from Monday, 17 August 2026, if the concerns are not addressed.
