SOKAPU Sues Umahi Over Nurse Mary Habila’s Death, Seeks Autopsy and ₦20bn Damages

The Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna over the death of Nurse Mary Habila. The group is seeking an order for an autopsy to establish the cause and circumstances of her death. SOKAPU is also demanding ₦20 billion in damages, alleging violations of Habila’s rights and a failure of duty of care. Minister of Works David Umahi, Habila’s father, the Ebonyi State Attorney General and the state Commissioner of Police are listed as defendants. The Ebonyi Police Command and Umahi have both supported an autopsy, while reports indicate that some relatives oppose the procedure. The court is expected to set a hearing date.
