OAU Students Launch 72-Hour Lecture Boycott Over Campus Transport Failures

OAU Students Launch 72-Hour Lecture Boycott Over Campus Transport Failures

Students at Obafemi Awolowo University will stop attending lectures from April 14 to 16, 2026. The protest targets chronic delays and overcrowding under the new transport system. Under the revamped scheme supported by Oluremi Tinubu, only newly provided buses and tricycles now serve campus routes. Students say this has led to long queues, higher fares and the removal of familiar operators who once eased movement. The Students’ Union is demanding additional buses, a temporary return of the old transport options and greater student involvement in planning. They will assess progress after the 72-hour boycott and warn of further action if conditions do not improve.

Absolutely, adjusting shuttle frequency and implementing routine vehicle checks should help ensure reliable service before and after the boycott ends.

Boycotting lectures risks penalizing students more than admin. A targeted petition or direct dialogue could focus pressure without derailing academics.

Even during the boycott, students could organise carpools, bike shares, or staggered rides to reduce overcrowding and maintain learning routines.
