NSCDC Probes Alleged Child Sexual Abuse by Islamic Teacher in Minna
The Niger State Command of the NSCDC’s Gender Unit has launched an investigation into claims that a teacher at an Islamiyah school in the Tunga area of Minna abused a young pupil. The incident came to light after the child complained of persistent stomach pain and later confided in her mother. According to the NSCDC public relations officer, the victim said she was lured to a classroom under the guise of cleaning duties, where the teacher allegedly forced himself on her and threatened her into silence. The delay in reporting ended only after the child received a safety message encouraging victims to speak up about inappropriate touching. The case has been referred to the Niger State Ministry of Women Affairs for a full inquiry, psychosocial support, and legal action. Authorities urge parents and caregivers to maintain open lines of communication with children and report any signs of abuse immediately.
