Iran Files FIFA Complaint Over Travel Restrictions at World Cup 2026

Iran’s national football team has announced plans to lodge a complaint with FIFA. The team says North American hosts imposed travel restrictions that disrupt their preparation. The Football Federation of Iran requested permission to fly from Tijuana to Los Angeles two days before their match with Belgium. FIFA denied that request, despite Iran arguing the extra time was needed for acclimatization and final training. Iran also protested having to leave Los Angeles the night of their opener against New Zealand. US officials responded that Iran was informed they could arrive only the day before each match and depart on match night. The same procedure will apply for their group game in Seattle.
