Osun Police Ambush Kidnappers, Rescue Herder and Recover ₦2.2m Ransom
Police in Osun State coordinated a sting operation that led to the rescue of a 50-year-old herder and the recovery of over ₦2.2 million. The incident began after Haruna Yusuf was abducted on July 9 near Wasinmi Village. The Violent Crime Response Unit trailed the ransom handover to the Majeroku area along the Ibadan–Ife Expressway on July 12. A gun battle erupted when the kidnappers opened fire. One suspect, 40-year-old Usman Aliyu, was wounded, arrested and taken for treatment, while the victim escaped unharmed. In related actions, officers also arrested three suspected cult members in Iree, recovering local charms and a small coffin. Investigations continue as police pursue other suspects linked to terrorising communities.
