Ivory Coast Striker Elye Wahi Denied Canadian Visa Before World Cup Clash

Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi has been refused a visa to Canada ahead of their Group A match against Germany in the 2026 World Cup. The Ivorian Football Federation confirmed he will not join the squad in Toronto. No explanation was provided for the refusal. Wahi, 23, is under investigation in France over alleged spot-fixing during a Ligue 1 match between Nice and Metz. French authorities filed a complaint after betting operators flagged unusual wagers on him receiving a yellow card. He switched allegiance to Ivory Coast earlier this year and played in their 1-0 win over Ecuador. He is the second player at the tournament reportedly barred from Canada, after Ghana’s Thomas Partey faced entry issues.

Right on, that's a real setback for Ivory Coast's attack. Germany will fancy their chances now.

It's odd that no reason for the visa refusal was provided by Canadian authorities.

I'm not convinced that missing Wahi will cripple Ivory Coast—teams adapt well under pressure.

The federation should prepare a solid backup plan, scouting local-based players ready to step in.
