Video Emerges of Soldier Beating TheCable Journalist in Lagos Traffic
A soldier attacked Olalekan Fakoyejo, assistant business editor at TheCable, after the journalist blamed him for a traffic snarl in Ikeja. The incident unfolded on Saturday, May 2, as Fakoyejo rode from Ikeja to Ogba in a keke napep. Soldiers directing traffic forced another rider onto his vehicle, worsening the jam. When Fakoyejo spoke up, one officer dragged him off and ordered him to face his colleagues. An eyewitness video shows the soldier repeatedly slapping Fakoyejo, shoving him and trying to hit him with a cudgel. The journalist’s phone fell and shattered on the tarmac. Bystanders pleaded with the soldier to stop, fearing for Fakoyejo’s safety. The attack comes days after another soldier’s bullet killed an NYSC member in Abuja.
