Blaming Wike Alone for Abuja Flooding Is Unfair, Reps Spokesman Says

House of Representatives Deputy Spokesman Philip Agbese has defended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over recent flooding in Abuja, arguing that residents also contribute to the problem by dumping refuse in drainage channels and waterways. Agbese said it was unfair to blame Wike alone, citing ongoing road, drainage and transport projects across Abuja and satellite towns. He said the FCT Administration has completed 221 kilometres of the 317 kilometres of roads awarded in satellite communities since the current administration began. The lawmaker urged residents to keep waterways clear, report blocked drainage channels and support enforcement against illegal dumping and encroachment. He added that the FCT Administration should continue investing in drainage and flood-control infrastructure as Abuja expands.
