Nigeria Smashes African Record to Reach Mixed 4×100m Final, Books 2027 Worlds Slot

Nigeria Smashes African Record to Reach Mixed 4×100m Final, Books 2027 Worlds Slot

Team Nigeria’s mixed 4×100m relay crew secured a place in the final at the World Athletics Championships in Gaborone. They clocked 40.24 seconds to set a new African record and guarantee their spot at the 2027 World Championships in China. Canada won the semi-final in a world record 40.07s, with Germany second in 40.15s and the Netherlands third in 40.20s. Nigeria’s quartet of Favour Ashe, Jennifer Chukwuka-Obi, Chidera Ezeakor and Maria Thompson delivered the standout performance despite a late withdrawal. Three key sprinters – Rosemary Chukwuma, Blessing Ogundiran and Anita Enaruna – were absent, hampering Nigeria’s chances in the women’s relays. The team will get a final shot to qualify in the men’s 4×100m, men’s 4×400m and mixed 4×400m events on Sunday.
