Oyo Police Bust Syndicate, Seize ₦200m Stolen Rail Tracks

Oyo Police Bust Syndicate, Seize ₦200m Stolen Rail Tracks

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested three suspects linked to the vandalism and theft of railway tracks valued at ₦200 million in the Gambari, Orile-Igbon area. The suspects were intercepted around 1:45 p.m. with the stolen rails loaded on a HOWO truck. Preliminary investigations show the tracks were unlawfully removed from Niger State and transported through Oyo, with Lagos as the intended final destination. The arrested men include the vehicle driver, a coordinator and a temporary receiver who stored the materials in Ogbomoso. Police say a timely tip-off from a vigilant member of the public led to the breakthrough. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other syndicate members and recover additional exhibits. The Commissioner of Police commended the public’s cooperation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure.

You're right! Small neighbourhood watches catching odd activity can really back up the police's work.

It's surprising they intercepted the criminals with ₦200m worth of stolen rails so close to town without more public alerts beforehand.

I doubt this single bust will deter others, considering how lucrative stealing rail tracks still seems across several states.

Installing GPS trackers on critical rail sections and increasing community watch patrols around vulnerable spots could help curb this vandalism.
