Ogbuanu Sues Ex-Governor Nwobodo for ₦5.8bn Over Demolished Estate

Ogbuanu Sues Ex-Governor Nwobodo for ₦5.8bn Over Demolished Estate — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Dr. Basil Kenechukwu Ogbuanu has filed a ₦5.8 billion lawsuit against former Anambra Governor Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo and his wife over the demolition of his properties at Patson Estate, Independence Layout. Court filings show Ogbuanu is claiming ₦820 million in special damages for destroyed buildings and materials, plus ₦5 billion for emotional and psychological distress. He alleges that his development was razed by earthmoving equipment while he was detained. The statement of claim details a series of transactions via Millennium Construction & Estate Developers, Linkana Hotels and Moss Island Limited. Ogbuanu says he paid over ₦235 million for several plots before discovering conflicting titles. In response, the Nwobodos filed a counter-suit arguing no valid sale took place and claiming they offered a refund. They also accuse Ogbuanu’s workers of assaulting a police officer and detaining Patricia Nwobodo. A Magistrate Court recently struck out criminal charges against Ogbuanu and awarded him costs.

What reasons did Ogbuanu present in court to justify demanding such a high sum, and could this claim actually succeed?

Agree, we need to see the arguments in court to know if this hefty claim has real backing.

You're right, understanding the legal basis behind that ₦5.8bn demand and its realistic prospects would help.

It's surprising he's suing for ₦5.8 billion when special damages listed are ₦820 million. Something doesn't add up here.

Maybe the governor had legal grounds to demolish those buildings, and Ogbuanu's claim could be more opportunistic than principled.

Anyone involved should keep thorough records of property valuations and court filings to strengthen their position before heading to trial.
