Soldiers and Tanks Surround INEC Abuja Over ADC Protest Threat

Soldiers and Tanks Surround INEC Abuja Over ADC Protest Threat — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Armed soldiers and armoured tanks have been deployed around the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja. Police operatives stand guard at multiple access points. This show of force follows threats of a mass protest by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The deployment ties into a deepening leadership crisis within the ADC. INEC recently removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its portal under a Court of Appeal order. The commission has since suspended dealings with any ADC faction until the dispute is resolved. Parts of the complex remain cordoned off to deter unrest.

I'm not convinced they want to clamp down on protests more than usual; maybe they just want order around INEC.

A massive armed presence at the electoral commission seems more about intimidation than protecting democratic institutions.

I'm not convinced protesters planned violence; using tanks at INEC headquarters feels excessive and risks stifling peaceful dissent.

Focus on documenting movements and sharing reliable information so everyone can stay aware and avoid unnecessary risks around INEC.
